What is the Raviv method?

Raviv is a therapeutic technique developed by Mrs. Nili Raviv based on the work of Dr Sally Shaywitz, Professor Deborah Sunbeck and Ronald D Davis, which aims to correct specific learning disabilities e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia etc. It is an enjoyable, holistic and cost-effective approach, which can facilitate all kinds of learning. Whilst many approaches provide ways of working around problems, Raviv enables natural learning to take place, so the difficulties can be overcome.

Raviv looks at learning problems as a function of the neurological development of the brain. As a child grows, the brain goes through a sequence of developmental processes, each stage building on the foundations of the previous one. If a problem has been encountered in an early stage, every function, which develops later, will be compromised.

Thus if the practitioner takes the client back to the sensorimotor stage of the first year, and looks at how the brain is functioning by means of a series of simple physical exercises, the gaps in neural development can be identified. Once these are corrected, new neural pathways can be built.

The client is given exercises in session with the practitioner, and to practice at home, taking just 20 minutes per day. Building upon existing sensorimotor skills, the practitioner tailors the programme to deal with whatever problems are present. Most clients achieve their goals in 16 - 20 sessions or up to 8 months for ADD/ADHD. Benefits will often appear in other areas of life and improvement continues after the completion of the program.
